Freshman Cameron Barlow and senior Nate Houck powered through their opening-round singles matches and the doubles team of senior Lane Schell and freshman Liam Cole also won Monday at Estacada to advance in the Special District 2 boys tennis tournament.
Barlow put together a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Estacada sophomore Liam Morgan. Houck took a 6-3, 6-1 victory against sophomore Yandell Shepard, also of Estacada.
Two other Warriors singles players ran into tough draws against North Marion. Junior Colby Jones edged Andrew Sims, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, after Sims had battled back to force the deciding set. Gio Rodriguez of North Marion topped freshman Lev Grose 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles play, Schell and Cole teamed up to defeat Junction City sophomore Damien Escobedal-Bernal and junior London O’Conner, 6-2, 6-1.
The doubles team of sophomore Samuel Holroyd and freshman Elijah Arthurs dropped a three-set decision to North Marion’s Sawyer Rostocil and Giovanni Rodriguez, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, then fell into the consolation bracket and lost to Molalla freshmen Boe Line and Lincoln Fisher, 8-2.
The Philomath duo of junior Mika Laukkanen-Raskauskas and freshman Jovi Tavano dropped a match to Cascade sophomore Jackson Greufe and senior Parker Burlingame, 6-4, 6-0.
The tournament continues Thursday and Friday at the Salem Swim and Tennis Club.
