The community’s veterans and the general public are invited to attend Veterans Day programs at Philomath schools in the coming days.

Events are scheduled for Friday at Philomath Middle School, Philomath Elementary School and Clemens Primary School, with an additional program Monday at Philomath High School. All programs are open to the community and especially welcome veterans and their families.

Philomath Middle School (2021 Chapel Drive) will hold its program at 8:10 a.m. Friday, featuring local veteran and former mayor Eric Niemann as guest speaker. The middle school band and choir will perform, and veterans will be asked to stand when they hear their service branch’s song. A reception will follow in the library with refreshments served by the school’s Excel leadership students.

Philomath Elementary School (239 S. 16th St.) begins its program at 9:15 a.m. Friday with Staff Sgt. Jose Diaz Ortega, assistant professor of Naval Science at Oregon State University, as guest speaker. The OSU Naval ROTC Color Guard will participate, and music will be provided by the PES choir and student body. Veterans will be recognized during a medley of Armed Forces songs.

Clemens Primary School (535 S. 19th St.) will honor local veterans at 10 a.m. Friday with a 30-minute program in the school gymnasium. Students will sing patriotic songs and share appreciation for veterans. All family members and local veterans are invited to attend.

Philomath High School (2054 Applegate St.) will host its assembly at 11:47 a.m. Monday, featuring former U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Chad Wilson as guest speaker. Lunch will be provided for veterans in attendance.

There will be no classes at all schools on Veterans Day, which is Tuesday, Nov. 11.
