The city of Philomath is recruiting applicants to serve on its new Housing and Economic Development Committee and in addition, vacancies remain on the Budget Committee and Inclusivity Committee.

Two to eight positions are open on the Housing and Economic Development Committee. Individuals residing or owning a business within the city or urban growth boundary are eligible to serve. Business owners can have a residence outside of Philomath but must live within Benton County.

The City Council established the new committee at its Jan. 8 meeting to focus on housing and economic development. City Manager Chris Workman said initial priorities for the committee will be the development of city-owned lots, removing barriers to affordable housing, enticing low-income housing, promoting a new façade grant program, considering other incentive programs aimed at redeveloping the downtown and recommending a program for installing public art within the streetscapes project.

One three-year term is available on the Budget Committee, which is made up of seven citizen volunteers and the seven City Council members. The group meets several times in the spring and receives budget updates throughout the year.

The Inclusivity Committee also has one vacancy, the position being a two-year term. The committee is made up of three City Council members and six citizen volunteers. The group meets monthly.

More information and online applications are available on the city’s website. The application can be submitted online or a fillable form can be completed and emailed to City Hall. Or, to receive a hard copy version of the application form, send an email to cityhall@philomathoregon.gov or call 541-929-6148.

Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
