The Philomath High School girls soccer team posted its first win of the season Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Crook County on the second day of the Bend Soccer Showcase.

Sophomore Jordyn Allen found the net in the fourth minute to give the Warriors an early lead. Senior Angelica Morales-Marquez had an assist on the play. The 1-0 lead held up into the second half until Morales-Marquez scored in the 44th minute. Allen had the assist.

“We are learning how to attack together and work off of each other,” PHS coach Mat Phelps said. “Both Jordyn Allen and Angelica (Morales-Marquez) really battled for the ball and followed up plays to get the goals.”

The Warriors defense recorded the shutout.

“Really solid effort from the whole team,” Phelps said. “We had sustained pressure on them throughout.”

Philomath (1-2) now takes a break from competition until a Sept. 15 trip to West Albany.
