Philomath Fire & Rescue was among the agencies that responded at 1:13 p.m. Saturday to a fire that broke out at a home on Southwest 71st Street just off Philomath Boulevard in Corvallis.
The local fire department was dispatched on the second alarm of the fire, Capt. Rich Saalsaa reported. Responding from Philomath was a truck with four crew members who performed salvage and overhaul duties, and an engine with four crew members who were on standby at the fire.

Saalsaa said the residence’s detached garage was a total loss in the fire along with a car parked in the driveway outside of the garage. There was also some fire and smoke damage to the house’s wall located closest to the garage.
The Corvallis Fire Department is in charge of the investigation.
