The Philomath High School boys soccer team evened its record in the Oregon West Conference, and freshman Skyler Wilson pulled off a hat trick in a 6-2 victory for the Warriors on Tuesday at Taft.
The visitors took control early with junior Sammy Hernandez finishing in the second minute. Senior teammate Esias Sapp followed with a goal in the 17th minute for a 2-0 lead. But Taft countered in the 21st minute to make things interesting for a stretch.
Wilson then hit the first of his three goals with a shot in the 26th minute. Hernandez added his second goal in the final seconds of the first half with an assist from sophomore Oliver Demasi.
Wilson scored twice more in the second half, in the 43rd and 70th minutes, the latter on an assist from freshman Toby Muravez.
Taft (1-5 overall, 0-2 Oregon West) got its second goal in the game’s closing seconds.
Philomath (2-4-1, 1-1) will host Cascade at 4 p.m. Thursday.
