The Philomath High School girls basketball team dropped its second straight game in Oregon West Conference play with a 45-37 setback Friday night at Stayton.
The Warriors (9-9 overall, 1-2 Oregon West) will try to get back in the win column Tuesday night with a home game against Newport.
In a rematch of last season’s Class 4A state title game, Stayton maintained a slim lead throughout with advantages of 7-5 after the first quarter, 22-18 at halftime and 39-31 going into the fourth quarter.
Philomath struggled with its shooting at 28.6% for the game, including 0 for 9 in the fourth quarter. Junior Jordyn Hood had nearly half of the team’s offensive production with 18 points.
Junior Kathryn Samek had a game-high 21 points for Stayton (13-3, 3-1), a performance that included three 3-pointers among her seven baskets along with 4 of 6 from the foul line.
The Warriors’ game on Tuesday vs. Newport is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff in the PHS gym.
