FRIDAY, AUG. 28

• 5:18 p.m. — Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 26 near Mishawaka in Clatsop County that took the life of Henry Herbert Greenwood, 77, of Portland. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Honda Fit driven by Greenwood crossed into the westbound lane for unknown reasons and sideswiped a westbound Tesla Model S driven by a 56-year-old Portland man. The Honda then collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Tacoma driven by a 30-year-old Molalla woman that was following the Tesla. An eastbound Volkswagen Golf driven by a 35-year-old Portland man attempted to avoid the Honda as it veered back into the eastbound lane but was rear-ended by an eastbound Ford F-350 driven by a 51-year-old Hillsboro man. Greenwood was transported by Life Flight to a Portland-area hospital and later pronounced deceased. A passenger in the Honda was transported by Life Flight to a Portland-area hospital with serious injuries. The Tesla’s driver and two passengers were not injured.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 1

• 2:50 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 38 west of Elkton in Douglas County that took the lives of Gail Elizabeth Smith, 74, of Coburg, and Cody James Miller, 25, of Winchester Bay. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Honda Ridgeline driven by Smith crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a westbound dump truck driven by Miller in the westbound lanes. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.

• 9:05 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 241 near Chamberlain Road in the Bunker Hill vicinity in Coos County that took the life of Robert Andrew Gallagher, 61, of Coos Bay. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a northbound motorhome driven by a 76-year-old Coos Bay woman struck Gallagher, who was crossing the roadway in the northbound lane. OSP reported that the area is unlit, and witness statements indicated Gallagher was not wearing reflective clothing or using any lighting. Gallagher was pronounced deceased at the scene. The motorhome’s driver was not injured.

• 9:15 p.m. — Troopers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Highway 126W west of Eugene that took the life of Robert Bryan Richardson, 52, of Veneta. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a westbound Toyota Tacoma driven by a 24-year-old Elmira man struck Richardson, who was walking westbound in the westbound lane. OSP reported that the roadway is unlit, and Richardson was wearing dark-colored clothing. Richardson was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver was not injured.
