SUNDAY, OCT. 4

• 7:35 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 540 west of Coos Bay that took the life of George Cole Cleveland, 41, of Coos Bay. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Cleveland’s Chevrolet Aveo was traveling the wrong way, eastbound in the westbound lane, when it collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma driven by a 35-year-old Coos Bay man. Cleveland was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Tacoma’s driver reported minor injuries and was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants. The highway was affected for about three hours during the on-scene investigation.
