SATURDAY, SEPT. 5
• 4 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 78 about 2 miles north of New Princeton in rural Harney County that took the life of Rae Jean Marie Neumann, 71, of Burns. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a utility task vehicle (UTV) driven by Neumann was traveling southbound along the shoulder when it attempted to cut across the highway to enter a driveway. A southbound Mercedes E350, driven by an 86-year-old Carefree, Arizona, man, was unable to avoid the UTV and struck it on the driver’s side before leaving the roadway on the northbound shoulder. Neumann was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. The Mercedes driver was not injured.
• 8:50 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 about 3 miles north of Chemult in rural Klamath County that took the life of Elias Keyin Sorenson, 21, of Eugene. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Honda sedan driven by Sorenson crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a southbound semitruck hauling a 53-foot trailer. Sorenson was pronounced deceased at the scene. The semitruck driver, a 64-year-old Tulare, California, man, reportedly sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 9
• 1:04 p.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Highway 244 in rural Union County that took the life of Marvin Joseph Mason, 84, of Kennewick, Washington. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated Mason’s motorcycle was traveling west of La Grande when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and crashed near the bank of the Grande Ronde River. Mason had been riding with a 73-year-old Richland, Washington, man, who noticed Mason was no longer behind him, turned around, and located Mason and the crashed motorcycle. Mason was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other rider was not injured.
