Philomath High School’s nine wrestlers and the rest of the Class 4A field will hit the mats at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland a day later than expected after challenging weather forced the event’s first day on Thursday to be postponed.

The Oregon School Activities Association announced that the tournament will begin and end on Friday with matches to run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Class 3A, Class 2A and Class 4A/3A/2A/1A girls tournaments will run on the same schedule. Each classification’s medal-round matches are estimated to begin at around 7:45 p.m., according to a schedule that the OSAA released.

Philomath’s qualifiers include freshman Porter Compton (138 pounds), sophomore River Sandstrom (106), senior Caleb Blackburn (120), freshman Riley Barrett (126), freshman Lake Mulberry (220), senior Ben Hernandez (113), junior Gradin Fairbanks (152), senior David Griffith (170), freshman Lukas Hernandez (126) and senior Chase Ringwald (132).

Hernandez had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury to leave the Warriors with nine participants.

The Class 6A and 5A boys tournaments and the 6A/5A girls tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
