The Downtown Safety and Streetscape Improvement Project’s construction hours in Philomath have shifted to 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday with occasional work on Fridays, the Oregon Department of Transportation announced.

ODOT said that work this week and next week will continue on Main Street between 10th and 11th streets. Next week, officials said there may also be some underground work near Seventh Street to install electrical pipe.

The project area as a whole covers a stretch of Main and Applegate streets from 14th to Seventh in Philomath’s downtown corridor. The bulk of the work relates to narrowing roads, creating more space for parking, widening sidewalks, installing pedestrian amenities, adding a two-way cycling route and adding “bulb-outs” to increase safety.

Motorists will encounter shoulder and lane closures, ODOT said, adding that lane closures are allowed weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The project started on the west end of Main Street and is working its way east. Work is alternating across both lanes — one late at a time.

Businesses in the project area remain open during construction. On-street parking will not be available in the areas under construction. Pedestrians have access through or around work zones with alternate routes marked, ODOT said.

ODOT estimates construction to continue into 2024.
