Philomath High’s softball team played one of its most competitive games of the season Monday on the road but North Marion was able to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-4 victory.
The Warriors end the season with records of 1-23 overall, 1-14 in the Oregon West Conference.
Philomath scored in the top of the first on a Zoee Howard single to right field that got Hannah Bennett home.
In the third with the game tied, 1-1, the Warriors put two more runs on the scoreboard to regain the lead. Howard collected an RBI with two outs when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Haley King then smacked a single to center field to drive in Bennett.
Again, the Huskies had an answer with two runs in the bottom half of the third and the score remained tied 3-3 going into the fifth.
Philomath took a one-run lead with another two-out clutch hit. Howard hit a double to center field and Laighla Hockema scored. Hockema had led off the inning with a single.
North Marion (6-17, 5-10) scored all four of its runs in the sixth with no outs.
Each team had six errors in the contest.
Howard had a big game at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort that included three RBIs. Kaylie Kohler also went 2 for 3. In the circle, Hockema pitched the distance, allowing seven hits, two walks and no earned runs along with one strikeout.
