Mr. R. Loggan died at his home at Philomath, Sunday, August 16th, at the age of 83 years. Funeral services at the Methodist church in Philomath this morning at 9:30 o’clock, and interment will be made at Mt. Union cemetery. Mr. Loggan’s wife died at Philomath the 29th of last month. These good old people were the parents of Dr. R.O. Loggan.

PHILOMATH, Or., Aug. 17. — (Special.) — At the advanced age of 83 years Rev. R. Loggan, one of the pioneer preachers of the United Brethren Church, died today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.L. Keezel. Death resulted from senile failure of the vital functions. Loggan’s career in the ministry spanned 60 years. He was ordained an elder in 1844, served several terms as presiding elder in the Kansas conference, and four times represented his constituency in the general conference. He was an able theologian and lucid writer. His wife died three weeks ago, having lived 83 years.

— R. Loggan, father of Dr. Loggan died at Philomath Sunday. With Mrs. Loggan, he came to Philomath about a year ago. The wife died about three weeks ago. The funeral of Mr. Loggan occurred at the Methodist church in Philomath. The interment was in Newton cemetery. The deceased was 83 years of age. He resided formerly at Brooks, Marion county.

Editor’s note: The death date on Mr. Loggan’s grave marker appears to be incorrect. Newspaper accounts place his death as Aug. 16, 1903 and all mention that he passed away after his wife, who died July 29, 1903.
