Obituary.
———
Departed this life in Elk City, Benton county, Oregon, August 18th, 1869, Sister Rachel, wife of Abiather Newton, aged sixty-four years, seven months, and two days. Having joined the M.E. Church when about 12 years of age, and obtained a commendable Christian reputation, as also an internal evidence of a change of heart, which was illustrated by more than fifty-two years’ service in the Church of God, she could confidently say, when nearing the valley of death, “all is well.” No human eulogies can give adequate significance to such a life. The privilege of seeing and being assured that aged companions and mothers in Israel conquer — and triumphantly enter upon the evergreen shore, will be some alleviation to the heart-rending sorrow that the aged companion — children — relatives and friends are now called to endure. Her praise is in the Church, and her record on high. “Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like theirs.” J.W. York
