Philomath High’s girls tennis team won the top three singles matches in straight sets but Marist Catholic pulled out a 5-3 dual win behind a strong performance in doubles.
Philomath senior Bailey Bell posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Haley Ross at No. 1 singles. Junior Adele Beckstead had the same level of success against her opponent, Ashley Powell, with a No. 2 singles victory of 6-0, 6-1. And at No. 3 singles, senior Megan Reese was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Julia Charbonneau.
Marist posted wins at No. 4 singles and swept the doubles matches. All of those wins by the Spartans were in straight sets but senior Lorelei Schell and sophomore Lucie Oster at No. 2 and freshman Clara Neville and sophomore Maggie King at No. 4 pushed their opponents to 7-6 scores in the second sets of their matches.
The girls are scheduled to host Molalla at 4 p.m. Thursday.
