The Philomath High School boys tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Marist Catholic on Wednesday with the visiting Spartans taking four of the six courts in straight sets.
Senior Nate Houck provided one of the bright spots for the Warriors, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 win over freshman Isaac Gourley at No. 2 singles. Freshman Andrew Sims added the other Philomath victory with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of junior Hugo Valvidares at No. 4 singles.
Marist Catholic claimed the top singles spot as junior Griffen Scoble defeated Philomath freshman Cameron Barlow 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Spartans freshman Parker Meeker got past Philomath senior Lane Schell 6-3, 6-4.
The Spartans swept the doubles courts to secure the team win. At No. 1 doubles, the Marist Catholic pairing of senior Eli Mildren and sophomore Olin Movalson handled Philomath freshmen Elijah Arthurs and Lev Grose 6-1, 6-0. The No. 3 doubles team of freshmen Ishan Delaney and Jacob Gay topped Philomath’s Kayden Reynolds, a junior, and sophomore Mika Laukkanen Raskauskas 6-2, 6-3.
The closest match of the afternoon came at No. 2 doubles, where Marist Catholic sophomore Linken Young and junior Malcolm Philip outlasted Philomath sophomore Samuel Holroyd and freshman Jovi Tavano 6-2, 1-6, 10-6.
Philomath is scheduled to play for a third straight day with a Thursday trip to Molalla.
