Philomath-area residents donated 894.6 pounds of food in last weekend’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, volunteer Diane Crocker announced.

The food donations benefit Philomath Community Gleaners and Nancy’s Food Pantry, programs that are a part of Philomath Community Services. Crocker said 46 volunteers contributed 82.5 hours as part of the effort.

Organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the annual Stamp Out Hunger event is the largest single-day food drive in the country. Residents participated by leaving nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes before last Saturday’s mail delivery. Letter carriers collected the food on their routes and got them in the hands of the volunteers.

For those who missed the food drive or in general would like to donate to Philomath Community Services, food and other goods can be accepted during open receiving hours — 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays. Those who would like to donate funds, those can be dropped off, mailed to P.O. Box 1334, Philomath, OR 97370 or submitted through an online form.
