A high-speed collision on Highway 20 near Lone Star Road west of Philomath on Saturday afternoon sent three people to the hospital, destroyed one vehicle and sent the second vehicle down an embankment, Philomath Fire & Rescue reported.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, located about 2 miles west of town past Woods Creek Road, at 4:06 p.m. Saturday. Philomath Fire & Rescue spokesman Capt. Rich Saalsaa said extrication was not required for any of those involved in the crash and added that the drivers and a passenger all wore seat belts and all airbags deployed upon impact.

A passenger in one of the vehicles sustained more serious injuries and was transported by a Corvallis Fire ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. A second ambulance transported the drivers to the hospital — both suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash closed Highway 20 in both directions for just over an hour.

Philomath Fire & Rescue’s response included an engine, rescue vehicle and nine personnel. The Philomath Police Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police all assisted at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by law enforcement agencies.
