The Philomath High School girls tennis team finished the regular-season portion of its schedule Tuesday with a 7-1 win over Corbett. The match, which had been rescheduled from earlier this season, included senior recognition.
On the court, freshman Bailey Bell had a battle on her hands but she pulled out a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 win to remain undefeated heading into the district tournament where she will be the No. 1 seed. Sierra Johnson was also a singles winner with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over her opponent.
In doubles, the teams of K Bacho and Lily Schell, and Nadia Durski and Lorelei Schell, both easily won their matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Chloe Jurva and Atira Fairbanks did not see action and won by default. Jurva and Fairbanks will be the No. 2 seed.
In all, Philomath won three matches vs. Corbett by default.
Seniors on the girls’ squad includes Fairbanks, Johnson, Jurva, Noel Lundeen and Lily Schell.
The boys tennis team did not play on Tuesday.
The district tournament will be up next for both programs with matches on May 10 and May 13-14. The girls will play May 10 at Madras and then May 13-14 at Black Butte. The boys will play all three days at Black Butte Ranch near Sisters. Each day’s action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
For the boys, Coach Gary Quandt said Dawson Beckstead will be the No. 3 seed in singles and the doubles team of Dylan Bell and Nick Stucki will be the No. 1 seed.
