The Philomath High School girls tennis team opened the 4A/3A/2A/1A District 2 Tournament on Monday at Madras by winning four of seven matches in the early rounds.

Beckstead will next face Estacada’s Gracie Jossi and Carlisle goes up against Molalla’s Olivia Ehlerginer.

Sophomore Megan Reese lost in a singles match against a Stayton opponent.
Philomath’s top doubles team of senior K Bacho and junior Phoebe Dodson rolled in their match, 6-0, 6-2, over a duo from Sisters. Bacho and Dodson, seeded fourth, will play an Estacada pair in the next round.
Sophomores Nadia Durski and Lorelei Schell advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Durski and Schell will face a team from Estacada in the next round.

The tournament is scheduled to continue Thursday and conclude Friday — both action on those days at the Salem Tennis and Swim Center.
