Oregon State Credit Union plans to host a free community shred day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

The event represents an opportunity to shred sensitive documents and is open to anyone — not just members of the credit union, organizers said. People can shred up to three boxes or bags of documents, diskettes or compact discs.

For those planning to go, organizers ask people to stay in their cars and open the doors or trunk and the items to be shredded will be unloaded. Plastic bags containing items to be shredded should be untied. If bringing documents in cardboard boxes, those boxes will be emptied and returned to the vehicle.

In addition to shredding, the credit union is accepting boxed or canned food donations to benefit Linn Benton Food Share. Donations are options and not required.

The fairgrounds are located at 110 SW 53rd Street in Corvallis.
