A higher-than-usual number of bull riders, an auction fundraiser to benefit an accident victim and the annual fireworks show were highlights on the second night of the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo.

The Friday performance featured the usual events — bareback riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc, steer wrestling and team roping. In the arena, announcer Scott Allen informed and entertained fans, including back-and-forth banter with rodeo clown Clint “Wolfey” Selvester.

The evening included a pause in the action for an in-the-arena auction to raise money for a special cause. Framed Frolic and Rodeo posters brought in $5,000 that went to Stephanie Leman, who suffered injuries in a June 24 accident at the rodeo grounds when she was run over by a vehicle backing up in the parking lot.

Following the rodeo, which ended with the traditional stampede of broncs around the arena, the annual fireworks show lit up the sky for several minutes.
