Simeon Mason: The remains of Mr. Simeon Mason, late of Junction City, but formerly of this county, were conveyed through this place, last Thursday afternoon, for interment at Philomath. We were unable to learn the particulars of his death. (Published June 6, 1874, in the Weekly Corvallis Gazette).

Those varmints: Mr. Ari Cantell, of this county, has been losing some of his Angora goats, recently, which led him to look after the wild animals in his neighborhood. On Wednesday of last week he killed a panther measuring seven feet. The next day he killed one measuring eight feet. On the next day, Friday, Mr. John Vineyard, in the same neighborhood, killed one measuring nine feet. If there are any larger ones in the woods, we hope to hear of their early demise. Frolic event: A prelude to the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo, the 20th annual Philomath Western Trail Ride was held last Sunday at the T-E Ranch. More than 350 people attended the event and more than 275 people rode horses under hot sunny skies, said Jaycee Darrell Hinchberger, who chaired this year’s ride along with Ken Clark. The 1,000-acre T-E Ranch, owned by Larry and Steve Bell, hosts the ride each year. “We do this to give everyone an opportunity to get tougher, ride on the ranch, and have a good time,” said Steve Bell. Numerous prizes were awarded to riders. (Published May 30, 1984, in the Benton Bulletin).
