Editor’s note: This log is based on information submitted to the newspaper by Philomath Fire & Rescue. Locations are approximate. Following is a rundown of all calls for the period of Aug. 25-31:
FRIDAY, AUG. 25
• 1:15 a.m. — Firefighters responded to a lightning-caused forest fire off Honeygrove Road in Alsea. Philomath Fire and Rescue sent a brush engine with three personnel plus an incident commander. The fire was under control as Philomath arrived and was released from the incident.
• 2:43 a.m. — Firefighters responded to a wildland fire off Watson Lane in Kings Valley. Philomath Fire and Rescue sent a brush engine with three personnel, an incident commander and duty officer to assist Hoskins-Kings Valley Rural Fire and the Oregon Department of Forestry to gain access to the area with the assistance of landowners. The fire ended up being 2 acres in size in steep terrain. Philomath assisted in deploying hose to surround the fire. See separate story.
• 8:39 a.m. — Firefighters responded to a lightning-caused fire in the Rock Creek Watershed area off Woods Creek Road in Siuslaw National Forest. Philomath Fire and Rescue sent a brush engine with three personnel and two chief officers. The U.S. Forest Service was the lead agency at the scene with assistance from Oregon Department of Forestry. Miller Timber firefighters also assisted. The fire was declared contained on Aug. 31. See separate story.
• 1:04 p.m. — Firefighters responded to a lightning-caused fire in the Starr Creek area southwest of the Holiday Tree Farm on private lands. Philomath Fire and Rescue sent a structural engine with three personnel and an incident commander. Oregon Department of Forestry also responded. Philomath worked with local landowners to locate and call in the coordinates of the fire in the backcountry. No structures were threatened with the fire burning in a clearcut area with large piles of slash burning. ODF managed the incident and had it under control on Aug. 26. See separate story.
• 8:34 p.m — Firefighters responded to a lightning-caused fire in the Blodgett vicinity off Marys River Road. Philomath Fire and Rescue responded with a water tender at the request of the Oregon Department of Forestry.
SATURDAY, AUG. 26
• 12:38 p.m. — Emergency medical services responded to a report of a bicyclist hit by a vehicle on Highway 20 after turning off Kings Valley Highway. Philomath Fire and Rescue responded with an engine and rescue vehicle with four personnel and an incident commander. The woman was transported with non-life-threatening injuries to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. See separate story.
Other calls: Emergency medical services responded to a call at 1:56 a.m. in the 6000 block of Winding Way. Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 5:08 p.m. in the 100 block of James Street.
SUNDAY, AUG. 27
• No calls of public significance reported.
Other calls: Emergency medical services responded to calls at 1:12 p.m. in the 2200 block of Rosecrest Drive; 3:24 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Hills Road; and 4:44 p.m. in the 24000 block of Walden Lane.
MONDAY, AUG. 28
• 6:46 p.m. — Philomath Fire and Rescue deployed Capt. Andy Louden as a deputy incident commander with the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Blue Incident Management Team to the Smith River Complex on the California-Oregon border. Louden remained on assignment as of Friday.
Other calls: Emergency medical services responded to calls at 4:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Houser Lane; 10:21 a.m. in the 24000 block of Finch Lane; and 1:28 p.m. in the 1000 block of Applegate Street.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 30
• 5:47 p.m. — Emergency medical services responded to a motorcycle crash on Kings Valley Highway near milepost 22. Philomath Fire and Rescue assisted with an engine crew of three personnel and an incident commander. The motorcyclist was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Other calls: Emergency medical services responded to a call at 11:26 a.m. in the 500 block of Fawn Lane.
THURSDAY, AUG. 31
• No calls of public significance reported.Other calls: Emergency medical services responded to calls at 8 a.m. in the 24000 block of Stovall Lane; 8:21 a.m. in the 2100 block of Rosecrest Drive; 1:32 p.m. in the 1200 block of North 19th Street; and 8:35 p.m. in the 1300 block of Main Street. In addition, firefighters answered a smoke investigation call at 5:35 p.m. on Highway 20 near milepost 40.
