Three Philomath City Council seats will appear on the November ballot with the filing period for candidates opening Wednesday.

Interested residents have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 11, to complete the filing process for the Nov. 3 General Election. The three seats to be included on the ballot are currently held by Jessica Andrade, Teresa Nielson and Rich Saalsaa.

Andrade and Nielson are each serving second terms, having first been sworn in back in January 2021. Their current four-year terms expire at the end of this year. Saalsaa was appointed to his seat in January 2025 following Matt Lehman’s departure and that term also expires at the end of the year.

All three seats will carry four-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2027, and expiring Dec. 31, 2030. The positions are nonpartisan and volunteer.

To qualify, candidates must be registered voters and must have resided within Philomath city limits since at least Nov. 3, 2025 — 12 months immediately preceding the General Election.

Those interested in filing should contact City Elections Official Crystal Weber to schedule an appointment and pick up a candidate filing packet. Prospective candidates must have their paperwork approved before collecting signatures from 20 or more Philomath residents to qualify for the ballot.

Additional information is available on the city’s elections webpage.
