SATURDAY, MAY 16

• 2:42 p.m. — BCSO responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 at Decker Road in which one driver, a 41-year-old Waldport woman, was distracted after dropping a bottle and struck a second vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old Eugene woman, that had slowed to turn. One vehicle came to rest against a roadside fence. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

THURSDAY, MAY 21

• 3 p.m. — BCSO took a report from a Philomath woman who said her mother’s retirement check, valued at $3,381, was stolen after it failed to arrive at the Philomath Post Office. The check was apparently cashed at an unknown location, possibly during transit.

FRIDAY, MAY 22

• 11 a.m. — BCSO transported a stray yellow Labrador retriever found on Highway 34 near Gray Creek Lane to Heartland Humane Society. The dog’s owner recovered the animal later that day.

• 5:20 p.m. — BCSO arrested a 66-year-old Newport man on a charge of reckless driving after a deputy observed him traveling west on Highway 20 at 104 mph before accelerating further and passing multiple vehicles recklessly. The man was stopped in a stretch between Burnt Woods and Eddyville.

SUNDAY, MAY 24

• 6:03 a.m. — BCSO responded to a report of two dogs running at large in the roadway on Highway 34 near Stovall Lane. Deputies captured a black Labrador retriever and transported it to Heartland Humane Society. A second dog, described as a chocolate Labrador mix, fled into a wooded area and was not located.

MONDAY, MAY 25

• 5:17 p.m. — BCSO responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Mouse Mountain Drive in which the driver, a 69-year-old Gresham man, drifted over the fog line and struck a guard rail, causing heavy front-end damage. The driver declined medical assistance and arranged for a tow.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 27

• 2:45 p.m. — BCSO responded to a report from a Bullevard Avenue resident of a suspected overpayment scam. A 76-year-old Philomath man reported receiving a check far exceeding his asking price from a prospective buyer of a chicken tractor that he had listed on Craigslist, with instructions to cash it and return the difference. The man recognized the scheme as suspicious and did not cash the check. No money was lost.
