An excessive heat warning that went into effect Thursday in Benton County has been extended by an extra day until 8 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service reported.
The latest forecast for Philomath shows daytime highs reaching the low 90s on Thursday, 100 on Friday, 101 on Saturday, 99 on Sunday and 100 on Monday. A high of 98 is also predicted for Tuesday. Overnight temperatures provide little recovery from the heat with lows in the mid 60s to low 70s.

The conditions will significantly elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those engaged in outdoor work or activities.
“As temperatures rise, it is important to remain well-hydrated, stay in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, and limit sun exposure,” Benton County wrote in a news advisory. “It is recommended to check in on neighbors and loved ones. Please refrain from leaving young children and pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”
Officials advise that if someone becomes overwhelmed by the heat, promptly relocate them to a cool, shaded area. If heat stroke is suspected, call 911.
Cooling centers, indoor sites that are free for the public to access during designated hours, are typically available.
According to 211info.org, there are three cooling centers in Philomath:
- Philomath Community Library, 1050 Applegate St., offers relief during its operating hours (Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.).
- Philomath Fire and Rescue Station 201, 1035 Main St., offers relief from extreme heat when open to the public (weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.).
- Peace Lutheran Church, 2540 Applegate St., offers relief from extreme heat when daytime temperatures reach or exceed 90 degrees for a prolonged period of time. A covered patio is available for pets. If those temperature conditions occur, the church is available daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
