The future of Philomath’s Main Street will be the topic of discussion at 3 p.m. Thursday during a public outreach meeting.

The Philomath Downtown Safety and Streetscapes Project will approach construction with a “timber town” theme in mind. Surveys of residents indicated a strong preference for that theme and the City Council gave it final approval.

The project’s goals revolve around roadway safety, downtown revitalization on many levels, promoting tourism, improving city systems and bringing it all together with a common theme. The project area will include Main and Applegate from 14th to Seventh.

During Thursday’s event, residents are invited to provide input on available options for pedestrian-scale design elements such as streetlights, benches, bike racks, garbage receptacles and more.

The latest timeline issued through the city manager shows construction beginning in 2022.

The city stated that Thursday’s meeting will be the first of several outreach opportunities available for the public.

The meeting will be held through videoconferencing. Click on this link to reach the Zoom meeting page. The meeting ID is 206 550 7670 and the password is Philomath.

Participants can also dial in via phone at 312-626-6799. Both the participant ID and the meeting ID is 492443.

For those who are interested only in observing, it will be live-streamed on the city’s Facebook page.

For those unable to attend through Zoom or phone, contact the city manager’s office for assistance.
