The Benton County Health Department will hold a free compliance training Saturday, Sept. 26, for local businesses that sell alcohol, tobacco or cannabis products.
The training runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Benton County Kalapuya Building, 4500 SW Research Way in Corvallis. Interested participants must register by Sept. 23 at bit.ly/BCRetailerTraining2026.
The session is aimed at helping retail owners and employees comply with state and local laws governing regulated products. Topics include spotting fake identification, using black lights and magnifying lenses to verify IDs, and recognizing signs of intoxication. The training will also cover fentanyl awareness, overdose prevention and naloxone use.
“Retailers play a key role in helping prevent substance use and access by minors,” said Suzie Beaupre, BCHD’s Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Education program coordinator.
Beaupre said the program has two main goals — preventing minors from accessing regulated substances and helping local businesses stay in compliance with the law.
Participants will receive a free lunch, handheld black lights and naloxone kits, and can enter a drawing for a gift card.
The event is a partnership between the county’s alcohol, drug and tobacco prevention programs, its Risk Reduction program, the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission and other community organizations.
