The latest work planned for a Philomath road project will force the closure of Chapel Drive from South 13th Street to Bellfountain Road from Sept. 5-20, Benton County Public Works announced.
A major reason for the 15-day closure involves work related to the replacement of a large culvert at the east fork of Newton Creek.
The county said access for residents will be maintained, however, the area of the culvert replacement located 300 feet east of the Newton Creek bridge will not be passable. To navigate around the closure, detour routes will be designated via Fern Road, Airport Road and Bellfountain Road.
The $3.2 million project includes the addition of 6-foot bike lanes on both sides of the road from South 19th to Bellfountain Road, a raised intersection at South 19th and Chapel, medians that will include turning areas from Chapel into the middle school entrance and a multi-use path along the stretch that borders Downing forest.
