The Philomath City Council plans to pour through an extensive community survey, consider a new police chief and take a look at a resolution to enter into an agreement with the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo related to a grandstands project at Skirvin Park at a meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 at City Hall.
The city put out a survey to collect information on city-provided services with 342 responses. The information will be utilized by city staff to make suggestions for a Strategic Plan update in March, Assistant City Manager Chelsea Starner said in an agenda item summary.
City Manager Chris Workman has recommended Lt. David Gurski to be promoted to serve as the next chief of police. Current chief Ken Rueben plans to retire this spring and Gurski’s appointment would go into effect April 3.
The Skirvin Park resolution would allow the financing of up to $500,000 for the construction of the rodeo arena’s grandstands, lighting and related features and enter into an agreement with the Frolic for annual payments.
Also on the agenda, councilors plan to consider a liquor license application for a new wine company and proposed updates to the city’s municipal code for parks.
For those not attending in person at City Hall, the regular meeting will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
