The Philomath City Council plans to discuss moving forward with a feasibility study for Philomath Community Library at its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11 at City Hall.
City Manager Chris Workman and Corvallis-Benton County Public Library Director Ashlee Chavez worked together on the preparation of a request for proposals for architectural and engineering services to complete an expansion study. Current use of space, future needs, construction restrictions and parking requirements are among the topics that the study will take into consideration.
The city’s population has increased 84% since the library opened in June 1995. According to the latest estimate from the Portland State University Population Center, Philomath has 5,801 residents as of July 1.
The council also has a vote coming up on an ordinance related to a franchise agreement with Republic Services. A city management report is also on the agenda.
Councilors are also planning to meet in executive session as allowed under state statute to consult legal counsel regarding current litigation or litigation likely to be filed.
For those not attending in person at City Hall, the regular meeting will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
