The city of Philomath invites the community to a ribbon-cutting and Veterans Day ceremony at Paul J. Cochran Veterans Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Saturday.
City staff, councilors, park board members and other community groups will be in attendance. All veterans, their families and community members are invited to attend. The park is located on the corner of College Street and North 16th Street. Cochran, a Philomath High alum, was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
The Northwest Scots Honor Guard, an organization that operates under the direction of the Oval Office, will present Vietnam Era military personnel or family members with a Bronze Eagle Medal. Anyone that has not yet received this medal is welcome to apply. If interested, send an email to cityhall@philomathoregon.gov by Thursday to be added to the medal recipient list.
Also among the scheduled activities is the presentation of a Peace Pole by the Philomath Rotary Club.
The park’s granite memorial stones were installed earlier this week to be in place for the ceremony.
