Award-winning pianist John Nilsen will make an appearance in Philomath Sunday morning with a concert at the College United Methodist Church. All are invited to take in the event, which is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Organizers said the concert is free and open to the public, however, a freewill offering will be taken. Nilsen will have compact discs and other merchandise available for purchase.

An accomplished pianist, guitarist, composer, lyricist and vocalist, Nilsen was selected to be a “Yamaha Signature Piano Artist” in November 2021. Last month, he was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Nilsen was born in Seattle and raised primarily in Portland. According to a biography on his website, he began studying piano from his mother at age 6 and taught himself to play guitar at age 12.

“He loves to get out on the rivers, into the forests and onto the mountains of the region,” Nilsen’s online biography states. “The people, landscapes, weather and tenor of life in the Pacific Northwest frequently influence Nilsen’s musical themes.”

The church is located at 1123 Main St.
