The Philomath City Council will need to discuss replacing one of its members Tuesday evening at the group’s annual monthly meeting. Matt Lehman, who has served on the council since 2020, submitted a letter of resignation Wednesday effective immediately because of a new position that he said presents a conflict of interest.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Philomath City Hall — a day later than usual because of Veterans Day on Monday.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time on the council and fortunately will be able to continue working with the city in my new role,” Lehman wrote while sharing that he has accepted a position with the Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments, an organization that collaborates with communities to solve problems and connects them with local, state and federal programs.

Lehman’s term expires at the end of 2026. The city plans to advertise the vacancy and accept applications from citizens interested in serving the remainder of his term until Dec. 30

Also on the agenda, councilors will discuss the awarding of a $1.6 million contract to Mid-Valley Gravel to complete a water and sewer improvement project on 19th Street. The work involves the replacement of sewer lines installed in 1952 and water lines installed in 1960 and would occur prior to Benton County’s repaving of the street next summer.

A utility rate study discussion and first drafts of psilocybin-related ordinances also appear on the schedule along with a management report.

Prior to the regular meeting, the council will meet in executive session beginning at 5:30 p.m. to discuss employee matters, including evaluations, and to consult legal counsel on litigation issues. Executive sessions are closed to the public.

The regular meeting at 7 p.m. can be viewed live on the city’s YouTube channel.
