A workshop on the repointing of a historic chimney is planned for Sunday at Fort Hoskins Historic Park, Benton County announced.
The Fort Hoskins’ Commander’s House Chimney Restoration Workshop will run from 9 a.m.-noon April 21 with the intent of educating participants on the repointing of a historic chimney using line-based mortar.
Repointing is a restorative process that replaces mortar that has deteriorated between bricks or stones.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn from expert instructors and can coordinate with them for further involvement in chimney repair beyond the workshop.
The Benton County Historic Resources Commission is offering the workshop in collaboration with the Natural Areas, Parks and Events Department, and the State Historic Preservation Office.
The free workshop, which offers a unique hands-on experience in preserving local historical heritage, will be limited to eight participants, organizers said. Attendees are required to sign up in advance to secure their spot.
