The Philomath High School girls volleyball team pushed Cascade on the road in a competitive match Thursday evening but the home team secured a win in four sets, 25-27, 25-18, 25-11, 25-23.

Coach Whitney Thomas said it was a tough loss but sees a team moving in the right direction.

“The girls did a great job defensively and on serve receive,” Thomas said. “Many different players stepped up when needed and contributed. Looking forward to getting another chance in a few weeks.”

The Cougars will visit Philomath on Oct. 20.

On the stat sheet, senior Nora Stanley led the team in hitting with 13 kills and classmate Marri Best finished with five. Another senior, Lora Theurer, led in assists with 10. And junior Lucy Alley had three stuff blocks.

Philomath (2-10 overall, 0-3 Oregon West) plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Central.
