The Philomath High School softball team dropped its second straight in Oregon West Conference play Thursday with a 10-0 loss in five innings at Cascade.
The Cougars (7-5 overall, 2-0 Oregon West) have been on a hot streak, outscoring opponents 63-13 over a five-game winning streak.
Cascade led 3-0 through three innings and then pulled away in the fourth with a six-run frame. The game ended on the run-rule in the fifth when a runner at third scored on a bunt by a teammate.
Cascade sophomore pitcher Taylor Bays allowed just three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. At the plate, senior Cassidy Crabtree, junior Kaitlyn Webb and junior Haylee Kastl each had two hits.
For Philomath, the team’s three hits were a single in the first by sophomore Rylee Martin, a single in the second by junior Haley King and a single in the fourth by junior Sierra Skaggs.
In the circle, sophomore Hailey Smith went 3-1/3 innings and allowed 10 hits and two walks with one strikeout. King finished and allowed no hits and three walks with one strikeout in one inning.
The Warriors (6-4, 1-2) are scheduled to play next at 5 p.m. Monday at Newport.
