A community debate on whether voters should be required to present identification at the polls is scheduled for Wednesday at Philomath Museum.
The event, hosted by Braver Angels, begins at 6 p.m. Attendees will hear speeches for and against the evening’s resolution: “Voters should be required to present valid identification when casting a ballot.”
Audience members are invited — but not required — to share their own perspectives during the debate.
Organizers emphasized that the resolution does not reflect Braver Angels’ position on the issue.
Braver Angels describes itself as a citizens’ organization working to bridge the partisan divide by bringing red and blue Americans into conversation. According to the group, its goal is not to change participants’ views on policy issues but to change how they view one another.
Admission is free, though donations to Braver Angels, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, are welcomed. Organizers ask interested attendees to RSVP in advance through Eventbrite and to use the promo code BRAVER at checkout for a free ticket.
The Philomath Museum is located at 1101 Main St.
