The Philomath High School swim teams won three events and placed among the top three in 11 events in the annual District Sprint Meet Saturday at Albany Community Pool at South Albany.
Warriors sophomore Lucas Brandt added to his long list of victories by touching first in both the 50-yard butterfly and 50-yard breaststroke.
Brandt swam the 50 fly in 25.37 seconds and finished a little more than a second and a half ahead of junior teammate Cameron McLennan, who was the runner-up in 26.95 seconds to give the Warriors a 1-2 finish in the event.
In the 50 breaststroke, Brandt easily beat the competition with a time of 28.64, which was 2.38 seconds faster than the runner-up.
In addition to the 50 fly, McLennan had another top-three individual finish for the Warriors with his performance in the 200 freestyle with third place in 2:14.06. Junior Mason Stevens turned in a third-place swim in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:08.09.
Philomath’s 200 medley relay placed second behind Sweet Home with a time of 1:59.49. Stevens, Brandt, junior Ike Avery and senior Alex Dye swam on the relay.
Out of the girls results, senior Kyah Weeber had a victory in the 50 butterfly with a time of 31.75 seconds. That time was 0.87 of a second faster than the event’s runner-up. Sophomore Kate Burriel placed third in 35.08.
Philomath had a 2-3 finish in the 50 breaststroke through the efforts of two of the team’s seniors. Hanna McDaniel turned in a 38.93 for second and Kateri Pindell had a 39.09 for third.
Weeber also placed third in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:11.76.
The meet did not release official team scoring for the event. Based on the results, however, Sweet Home compiled the most points for both the boys and girls. Philomath’s boys were second and the girls were in a tight race for second with Salem Academy, Junction City and Cascade.
Philomath’s next action is set for 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Clemens Community Pool for a four-school meet. Scheduled to join the Warriors are Marist Catholic, North Marion and Stayton.
