The Philomath High School boys tennis team lost its first match this season with a 8-0 nonleague loss at Marist Catholic in Eugene.
The Warriors came into the match shorthanded and had to default at No. 4 singles. Philomath’s closest match of the afternoon came at No. 1 singles where Dawson Beckstead dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Lucas Franssen.
Marist Catholic had decided victories in the other two singles matches and in the four doubles matches.
Philomath (2-1) will now launch into league play on Tuesday with a home match against Madras. The action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
