In a competitive battle at the Philomath High tennis courts on Friday, the Warrior girls came up short against Marist Catholic by a 4-2 count with two matches suspended by rain.

Both of Philomath’s victories came in singles matches and in dominating fashion. At No. 1 singles, Bailey Bell posted her latest 6-0, 6-0 win and at No. 2 singles, Adele Beckstead also rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Marist got a win at No. 4 singles and swept the three doubles matches that were finished.

In the two matches that were suspended, Philomath had opportunities for victories. At No. 3 singles, Daniella Carlisle was embroiled in a close battle against Tyler Harding and it ended 2-6, 6-4, 4-4. At No. 4 doubles, Dristi Patel and Abigail Workman trailed Rhysa Hufman and Kaitlyn Mazur in another close one, 4-6, 5-5.

Even if Philomath had won the two suspended matches, it appears that Marist would’ve won on the tiebreaker for most sets won.

Philomath is scheduled to get into league play on Tuesday with a trip to Madras.
