Good morning, Philomath.

Jackson Street Youth Services brought free burritos, a mobile clothing closet and even a goat to Philomath City Park on Thursday evening as Skate Park After Dark made the second of six stops aimed at reaching young people before they face housing instability. Philomath Community Services has launched its annual Holiday Cheer gift drive, and with parents shopping for their own kids this year, sponsors are asked to leave donated gifts unwrapped. In this month’s PSSS column, Diane Crocker shares the county emergency manager’s checklist for packing a go bag that can carry residents through three days on their own. Fred Shaub will give a vocational talk to the Philomath Rotary Club at noon Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church, with lunch provided for those who RSVP. And an Oregon State University study found that wildfire smoke days at U.S. public schools rose nearly eightfold between 2006 and 2023, prompting researchers to call for better air filtration. — Brad Fuqua, Publisher/Editor
