The Philomath High School volleyball team got back into the win column Tuesday evening with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-17 victory at Junction City.
“Great win tonight with everybody contributing,” PHS coach Whitney Thomas said. “We had some shake-ups in the lineup and everyone did a great job keeping their composure and trusting their teammates to do their jobs.”
The Warriors even their record at 2-2 with both victories coming on sweeps — the other victim being Warrenton back on Sept. 9.
“A lot of players got time on the court tonight and each one held their own and had a positive impact on the win,” Thomas said, adding that she was proud of her players for the effort.
Junior Nora Stanley had 11 kills and four assists in the victory. Junior Megan Ward contributed seven kills and sophomore Libby Kramer finished with three kills and four ace serves. Senior Avery Smith had 22 assists, two blocks and two aces.
Philomath will now turn its attention to North Marion this coming Saturday but it’s not for a conference matchup against the Huskies. Instead, the Warriors will participate in a tournament that begins at 9 a.m.
The team’s conference opener follows on Sept. 23 at home against Sweet Home.
Philomath’s win over Junction City avenges a five-set loss to the Tigers last season that took place on the Warriors’ court. PHS swept the Tigers in 2022 and 2023.
