The Philomath High boys tennis team battled to a 3-3 tie at Stayton on Tuesday. The Warriors picked up three singles wins to account for all of their points on the scorecard.

Senior Nate Houck rolled past senior Titan Smith-Salazar 6-0, 6-2, while freshman Andrew Sims was equally dominant in a 6-0, 6-1 decision over freshman Liam Lopez. Senior Lane Schell closed out Philomath’s singles victories with a 6-3, 7-5 win against freshman Henry Staehlin.

Stayton’s lone singles win came from senior Zachary Flett, who outlasted Philomath freshman Cameron Barlow in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.

The Eagles swept both doubles matches that were played. Juniors Caleb Larsen and Devin Hatfield defeated Philomath freshmen Jovi Tavano and Lev Grose 6-1, 6-0, and juniors Konstantin Hoffmann and Tristen Richie topped junior Kayden Reynolds and sophomore Samuel Holroyd 6-0, 6-0.

Double forfeits at the No. 3 and No. 4 doubles factored into the final team result.

Philomath returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when the Warriors host Marist Catholic.
