The Philomath High School girls soccer team posted its fourth straight shutout and went to 3-0 in the Oregon West Conference with a 4-0 road win Thursday at Cascade.
Sophomores Bethany Cannon and Kya Bolton each scored two goals as the Warriors improved their overall record to 7-1.
Philomath put in a dominating performance against a team that has struggled this season to records of 1-6 overall, 0-3 in the conference.
“We created a ton of chances and had several near misses,” PHS coach Mat Phelps said. “Their keeper also made a lot of good saves.”
Cannon opened the scoring in the 16th minute with an assist by senior Ellie Dye. Bolton followed with a goal in the 25th and the Warriors took a 2-0 lead at the break.
Bolton put the Warriors up 3-0 in the 62nd minute with another goal and then Cannon finished off the scoring with her second goal in the 71st minute.
“It got physical in the second half but our girls did great at keeping their heads and remaining calm,” Phelps said.
Philomath should see a tougher match in its next outing with a home appearance against North Marion. Like the Warriors, the Huskies are off to a 3-0 start in the Oregon West. Those two schools will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
