The Philomath High School girls soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine straight Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 victory at Cascade.

The Warriors (8-2-2 overall, 7-0-1 Oregon West) remain tied with North Marion atop the conference standings. Those two teams will square off at 3:30 p.m. Thursday on the PHS pitch.

Freshman Kya Bolton had two goals in the victory — scoring in the opening seconds of the second half to get the Warriors on the scoreboard and then hitting the net on a free kick in the 57th minute for a 3-0 lead.

“We played well but took some time to break through,” Warriors coach Mat Phelps said. “In the second half, especially, we made a few adjustments to our attack and our chances were better quality.”

Bolton’s goal in the 41st minute came with an assist to senior Natalie Dunn.

Philomath then scored a key goal for a 2-0 advantage in the 51st minute on a shot by senior Sophia Bauer. Junior Ana Candanoza had the assist. Six minutes later, Bolton followed with her second goal. Senior Petra Hernandez scored on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.

Cascade sophomore Halle Hammer scored in the 69th minute to account for the final margin.

The Warriors now turn their attention to the North Marion match. On Oct. 8, the two schools finished in a 2-2 tie — a game in which the Warriors scored twice in the first half and the Huskies countered with two goals in the second half. The game will decide the conference championship and help iron out playoff seedings with both teams having already clinched automatic berths in the 4A playoffs.
