The Philomath High School baseball team won’t need to travel far for the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Warriors, seeded 14th, will head to Eugene on Tuesday to face third-seeded Marist Catholic.
The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Philomath finished the regular season with a 14-12 record overall, which included a 10-5 mark for the runner-up spot in the Oregon West Conference. Marist had a 21-4 record overall and won the Sky Em League by a game over Junction City with an 11-1 record.
The two teams last met in the spring of 2025 at a tournament in Newport with the Spartans taking an 11-5 win. Philomath has qualified for the 4A bracket in three of the past four years and advanced past the first round twice — in 2022 when the Warriors reached the semifinals and last season with a win over Tillamook.
Philomath and Marist have played four common opponents this season — Molalla, Junction City, Newport and North Marion. The Warriors went 5-3 against those teams while the Spartans were 5-1.
The winner of the Philomath-Marist game will play the winner of No. 11 Phoenix at No. 6 Gladstone in the quarterfinals on May 29. The other two games in the lower section of the bracket are No. 10 La Grande at No. 7 Stayton and No. 15 North Bend at No. 2 Scappoose.
The upper part of the bracket shows No. 16 Astoria at No. 1 Henley, No. 9 Molalla at No. 8 Pendleton, No. 12 Tillamook at No. 5 Hidden Valley and No. 13 Estacada at No. 4 Junction City.
The championship game is scheduled for June 6.
