The Philomath High School track and field teams swept all dual-meet competitions Wednesday at Cascade High School with both the boys and girls squads posting dominant performances across the board.
The boys defeated all four opponents — Cascade 107-38, North Marion 116-19, Willamette Valley Christian 131-0 and Oregon School for the Deaf 130-5 — while the girls were equally dominant, topping Cascade 96-44, North Marion 120-15, Willamette Valley Christian 119-11 and Oregon School for the Deaf 129-0.
The Warrior boys won 16 of the meet’s 17 events. PHS made a statement in the sprints by sweeping the top three spots in the 100 meters and top two in the 200. Rocco De La Rosa edged teammate Kaden Howard in the 100 — 11.58 seconds to 11.59 — with Rowan Jessen third in 12.09. Howard won the 200 in 24.21 with Jessen runner-up at 25.46.
Dreyton Nuño won the 400 in 51.89 with Braeden Colvin third in 54.28. Lukas Hernandez took the 800 in 2:09.95 and Philomath swept the 1,500 with Oakley Pausch first in 4:58.01, Esias Sapp second in 5:03.65 and Milo Morrison third in 5:04.45 — all three finishing within 7 seconds of each other. Galen Murch won the 3,000 in 10:21.02.
Bryce Hruska was a double winner in the hurdles — taking the 110 in 16.43 and the 300 in 43.45. Colvin was second in the 300 hurdles in 45.64.
In the relays, the Philomath foursome of Hruska, De La Rosa, Nuño and Howard won the 4-by-100 in 44.76.
In the field events, Jamin Peters swept the throws by winning the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 10 inches and the discus at 136-4. Josiah Peters took the javelin at 181-5. Nathan Seits cleared 5-8 to win the high jump with Sapp third at 5-2. Blake Hauck won the pole vault at 11-0. Howard led a Philomath 1-2 finish in the long jump, winning at 20-10 with Seits second at 19-0. In the triple jump, Sapp edged Seits 36-4.5 to 36-4.
For the girls, Hailey Eckhold had a standout day in the field by winning four events — the shot put at 33-0, the pole vault at 7-6, the long jump at 15-6 and the triple jump at 32-3.
Elsewhere in the field events, Jordyn Hood was second in the discus at 99-1. Rebekah Workman took third in the javelin at 70-0. Reagan Nuño cleared 4-10 for second in the high jump. Sienna Bushnell was second in the long jump at 13-9.75 with Eden Phelps third at 12-11.
Kya Bolton led the way in the sprints by winning the 100 in 13.34. Adilee Stewart won the 200 in 29.76. Cassidy Smart was a double winner in the distance events, taking the 400 in 1:04.01 and the 1,500 in 4:55.40. Pyper Rutland won the 800 in 2:54.43 with Rachel Mecham runner-up in 3:19.57. Abby Phelps and Syd Clark were second and third in the 1,500. Bushnell won the 3,000 in 12:08.81 with Ava Panico second in 14:04.29.
The 400 saw Philomath sweep the top three spots with Smart winning ahead of Ava Oster (1:07.20) and Jordyn Allen (1:09.48). Hood won the 300 hurdles in 53.96 and was second in the 100 hurdles in 18.98 with Stewart third in 20.35. The Philomath 4-by-100 relay of Nuño, Bushnell, Hood and Smart won in 52.42, and the B team of Ruby Oster, Laney Davis, Eden Phelps and Ava Oster was third in 57.45. Philomath also won the 4-by-400 in 4:30.17 with Ava Oster, Rutland, Smart and Nuño.
Philomath is scheduled to compete again on Saturday at Blue River in the Aaron and Marie Jones Invitational.
